Venus Williams won the first quarter-final in the women's scheme early this morning against Pavlyuchenkova 6:4, 7:6 and is off to the semi-finals. There she would meet another American, Coco Vanderweghe who easily defeated the French Open champion, Garbine Muguruza to reach her first Grand Slam semi-finals.
This is Venus' second appearance in the final four since 2010, and her first in Australian Open for the last 14 years. This is one of the titles she has never won in her career.
Tomorrow are the matches between Pliskova vs Baroni and Serena Williams vs Johanna Konta.
