Nadal won the last match from the 4th round against Monfils to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Today were played the last matches from the 4th round at the Australian Open. As always, there was a great show on the courts including some of the stars in tennis.

In the first match, David Goffin defeated the 8th in the scheme, Dominic Thiem in 4 sets: 7-5,
6(4) -7, 2:6, 2:6. The match was really tied in the first set as both of them broke each other's serve a total of 5 times, but Thiem eventually won it. The second set did not display a complete favorite and it was decided in a tie-break. In the next two sets, Goffin dominated on the court to easily qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

Next on the court were Grigor Dimitrov and Denis Istomin who surprisingly eliminated Djokovic in the second round. Grigor played a steady match and did not let any surprises. For a complete feedback from the match click here.

Next on was the match between Milos Raonic and Roberto Bautista Agut. The Canadian who is currently the highest-ranked player in the tournament won rather easy in four sets: 6(6):7, 6:3, 4:6, 1:6.

The climax of the matchday was the clash between Rafa Nadal and Gael Monfils. Nadal easily won the first 2 sets 6:3, 6:3, but then started to struggle as he lost the next one 6:4 and was 4:2 down in the last set. Then, Monfils committed easy mistakes and lost his servings on the next two occasions and lost 6:4. Nadal will meet Raonic in the quarter-finals.

In the women's scheme, Serena Williams unsurprisingly won in two sets against Strycova 7:5, 6:4, and will meet Johana Konta in the next round. The world number 9 defeated rather easy Ekaterina Makarova (3) in only two sets: 6-1, 6-4. In the other two quarter-finals, Baroni was victorious against Brady and Pliskova made her way through by defeating Daria Gavrilova 6:3, 6:3.
