Pablo Cuevas achieved a great win against the 13th seed in Madrid's Masters 1000 tournament at the final score 7:6(5) 3:6 7:6(4). Both players were in their best form and show why they are one of the best players in the tour when it comes to clay. 

The first set was very tense. Both players demonstrated amazing service skills. They could not break each other's serve until the end of the set. The players kept their high quality serves in the tiebreak, too. The only mini-break point was realized by Monfils at 5:5 points which. This was the decisive point for the tiebreak and the set.

After taking the first set, the French unwinded a bit which led to an early break for Cuevas which he managed to keep until the end of the set.

The third set started with Gael serving. The players managed to exchange their service games once and again got to a tiebreak. What's more, there was a long pause in the third set due to problems with lighting. The tiebreak started with two mini-breaks. Cuevas managed to take a good advantage of 2-3 points and managed to keep it until the end of the tiebreak and in this way win the match.

Next opponent of Cuevas will be the young Australian Nick Kyrgios.
