Nico Rosberg won the 2016 Russian GP pretty easy without being overtaken for the whole race. He was in a supreme form and now makes his 7th title in a row and is starting to look for Vettel's record of 9 consecutive victories. With this race Nico extended his lead to 43 points ahead of the defending champion, Hamilton. However, Lewis also made an impressing race as he recovered from the 10th place on the grid.
The Russian GP will be marked with Vettel's crash in the opening lap after he was hit by Red Bull's Daniil Kwyat. The Russian driver entered the second turn with too much speed hitting Vettel into the back. The German continued his race, but then was hit again by Kwyat and ended into the barriers. Kwyat was then handed a 10 second stop/go penalty for causing Vettel's crash.
Red Bull's team performed surprisingly poor on the race after they have been appointed as favorites for hitting the podium. Ricciardo finished 11th while his teammate finished 15th. The reason for their poor race is probably their tyre change at the first lap after Vettel's crash when a safety car was on. They put on medium tyres which no other team did so early in the race. This resulted in much slower laps than the other drivers and logically lead to a poor race.
