Astounding Semifinal Results in Rio 2016

   Results from the semifinals:
*Rafael Nadal - Pablo Cuevas 7:6(6) 6:7(3) 4:6
*Guido Pella - Dominic Thiem 6:1 6:4

Yesterday's semifinals in Rio did not go as expected by most people. The 45th Pablo Cuevas defeated the favorite for the title and the king of clay surface Rafael Nadal in a 3 set thriller which lasted 2:30 hours. This was a third match between them and Cuevas won it for the first time. They last met last year in the 1/4 finals of the same tournament when Nadal won the match in 3 sets. Thus, this will be the first time in this tournament's history when a Spanish player won't play on the final.
In the other semifinal the 71 in the ATP ranking Guido Pella eliminated the 5th in the scheme, Dominic Thiem, in and easy 2 set win. Even though the specialists pointed Thiem as the favorite in this match, Pella managed to prove them wrong with his persuasive play and he qualified for the first ATP final in his career.
The final is scheduled for today and it is expected to start about 21:30 GMT.
